An InuYasha Fan Fiction

Laila was sitting on the lowest branch at the edge of the forest overlooking the village as she tried to help fix what she had caused. The miko was with child. If only Laila had known… The Egyptian sighed as her gaze fell to the yokai at the base of the tree. The power that was emitting from the docile creature was immense. She could easily see that the hanyou’s father was great.
The yokai’s gaze rose to the priestess in the tree. His eyes a deep obsidian. The yokai wished to scoff at the woman in the tree. She thought that she had him under her control, but he could feel that her measly power was only wrapping him and keeping him warm. It was strange feeling the power within him. He had never known this strength. His mother’s mortal half had been impeding him from day one. If only he had had this power before… Kagome would never have been hurt. Sesshomaru would have been his lap dog.
The only thing that was keeping them near the village was the fact that he still cared about his human mate. His heart was unchanged in the process. His memories were still his own. The only thing that had happened was that the Egyptian priestess had stripped him of his mortal limitations, “You will never succeed,” his voice was level and as monotonous as Sesshomaru’s. It was amazing how much confidence he gained from his increase in power, “If you were truly as powerful as you believed then you would have been able to complete this task in your own home as well as known not to mess with another being for your own benefit.”
Laila’s eyes grew wide as the yokai spoke to her. He shouldn’t have been able to do anything while under her control. She should have seen it the first time she looked into those obsidian orbs. There was life and intelligence. He was too clear, “You…”
“Understand the workings better than you do. I watched Kagome as she went through her lessons with Kaede. You are selfish and extremely arrogant,” he offered her a simple grin, “Try to complete your task, but trust me when I say that I will never leave Kagome to take care of anything no matter the state she is in. That is true love. What you wish is selfish love. I will sacrifice myself for her without hesitation,” he sighed, “I’m going to watch over them to make sure that she doesn’t get hurt, but trust me when I say that I am stubborn in any incarnation. I will not let you win.”
“You’ll let your other half die? You can’t! You’ll die!”
“No, foreigner,” the yokai’s gaze fell to the village again, “you’re magic is not foreign. You separated my demon side from my mortal side,” he smiled, “I am a whole other being,” he chuckled, “You really messed up this time. You have damned yourself,” with that the yokai leaped out of her sight.
Laila dropped down from the branch and focused her gaze on the staff. This thing was supposed to supply her with limitless power, but the yokai escaped her. Why hadn’t she seen this coming? The creature’s father must have been more powerful than what she had thought.
“So this is how this is going to turn out,” the priestess spun at the light voice to see the young monk standing behind her, “I don’t know what you had planned, but from what I’m seeing you didn’t do your homework.”
    “What are you talking about!”
“No need to get upset, priestess,” Miroku stepped up to her, “Inuyasha was powerful enough to subdue almost any demon in his current state. The hanyou’s father ruled this land for centuries before he picked Inuyasha’s mother. The woman was kind and beautiful. Her heart was warm and gave her immense strength of character. The two provide for the ultimate guardian. Nothing can stop him. It’s just a good thing that dog demon’s favor humans.”
    “There is no way…”
“You are underestimating Inuyasha,” there was a short pause before Miroku continued, “You are in for a surprise. Though, we can help you. I know Inuyasha hates you. At least if you stay with us you can expect to stay safe.”
“No,” Laila stood up straight as she took on that same air of confidence she had the night before, “I will get what I want. I will reside in the heavens with the gods! I deserve to be there.”

“She’s a megalomaniac. She believes she deserves to live with the gods,” Miroku summed up what he had observed to the rest of the group, “Though, just as I suspected, Inuyasha’s full demon self is more powerful than any I’ve seen. He shrugged off her attempt to control him and laughed at her.”
Kagome sighed as her stomach started to turn. The events of the night were upsetting her to the point that her stomach hurt. It was all she could do to make it seem like it was the minor nausea she had been subject to up to that point, “What are we going to do?”
“Well,” Miroku looked over to Inuyasha, who’s sneer had yet to leave the doorway. He knew what had to happen, but the yokai had been right. Inuyasha would never sit back and let Kagome fight anything on her own. The human before him was going to die and leave only the yokai. It was a painful thought, but Miroku knew that if that were to happen then the village and anyone in the village would never have anything to worry about, “there is only one thing to do. Either break the curse or learn to accept the current status change.”
“Are you crazy, Miroku!” Inuyasha finally tore his gaze away from the doorway to grab Miroku by the collar, “Kagome is going to stay safe and I’m not going to ever be okay with being human! You need to know what to do!”
“Inuyasha…” Kagome reached out to the man beside her.
“No, Kagome, I need to protect you! Both of you!”
“Please, Inuyasha,” the woman’s hand finally fell to her stomach. She knew that the stress she was undergoing was not good for the child that was trying to thrive in her womb, “I can’t…”
Inuyasha’s gaze fell on his mate to see the tears streaming down her cheeks, “Kagome,” his voice was low as he scooped the woman up in his arms and held her as she cried, “Miroku, there has to be something. Please.”
“I’m sorry, Inuyasha,” the monk felt the pain of the soon to be father. There was nothing like the feeling of expecting a child and then feeling helpless to defend the child and his love, “I wish there was something that I can do, but she can’t even fix this. This magic is even beyond her.”
“I,” Inuyasha’s gaze fell to the woman in his arms, “I need to do something for her.”
“The best we can do at this point is make sure she has food and plenty of rest,” the silence filled the hut as Miroku tried to think of what was best for the woman. She was like family to him and he could tell that she was in immense pain, “I’m going to go get Kaede to see if she knows anything that might help Kagome. Just relax.”
I finally got another chapter done. I'm so sorry about the delay!
